Drinks made with rum
Ti-punch. White rum, cane sugar syrup (or sugar, honey, etc.), lime. The most well-known… How you taste them depends on the time of day: if it's your first rum of the day, it will be strong and called « take-off » or « pétépied ». If it rather modest and on the light side, it'll be a « ti-bête », « punch fillette » or « ti-feu ». If you're invited to drink a ti-punch, you might hear the following phrase when you finish the first one: « il ne faut pas rester sur un pied », which means that, so that you don't lose your balance, you'll have to have a second one! On Saint-Martin, the aspect is different according to the communities and the establishments. So you'll have to tell them if you're rather a traditional ti-punch person.
Ti-punch.Planter. Rum, fruit juice, cane sugar syrup, spices. It is said that there is no one « right way » to concoct a planter. The amount of ingredients and the « little extras » that everybody adds to their own taste ends up creating a lot of different planters!
Blue Lady Take a tall champagne glass and add 1/4 rum, 3/4 tonic or soda, a dash of Curacao bleu and ice.
