Currency

The official currency is the EAST CARRIBBEAN DOLLAR (pronounce as »EC ») ; 1 EC dollar equals 2.67 USD. The USD is of course accepted everywhere but not the euro. It is therefore advised that you change your currency when you go through the French islands.

• From Dominica to Metropolitan France: 011 + 33 + 9 digits
• From Dominica to Martinique: For fixed-line telephones: 011 596,596 + 6 digits
• From Dominica to Martinique: For mobile phones: 011 596,696 + 6 digits
• From Dominica to Guadeloupe: For fixed-line telephones: 011 590,590 + 6 digits
• From Dominica to Guadeloupe: For mobile phones: 011 590, 690 + 6 digits

You can purchase telephone cards from the « Cable & wireless » company. They are located just behind the post office and right next to the landing pier. There is also a telephone card distributor outside the tourist bureau. On site, you'll find telephone booths that work with Cable & Wireless cards or booths that operate with bank cards and « Orange » booths which have been installed recently.

Please note: French mobile telephones now work here since the Orange company set up shop a few months ago. Be careful however about « roaming » charges which can be very expensive! You pay for incoming and outgoing calls and the rates are very expensive! It is better to hire a telephone from Cable & Wireless is you want to be able to be reached.
