The sun sets quite early in the West Indies, at around 6 pm. Nightlife in bars and discos is actually rather restricted, as people prefer to spend the evenings at home in the company of their friends. In the months of July and August, however, they go out significantly more often; zouks are organized in the streets, with the participation of all local celebrity zouk groups. At night, the only well-lit places in certain villages are churches and cemeteries. Night clubs are of a local style, offering a spicy blend of Antillean rhythms with a pinch of European modernism.

Zouk clubs are mostly frequented by the local population, and the atmosphere here is always gay and very authentic. It is, however, not advisable to go there alone, especially if you are a lady.
