SailingCertain companies offer day charters: excursions of one day to visit neighbouring islands: The Saints, Marie-Galante, la Desirade or the small island of Petite-Terre Your day trip includes a vast number of activities, and most typically involves a stop for bathing, snorkelling (and/or diving), lunch on board or in a restaurant and a guided tour of the different locations (though not in every package). Tours depart from several points on the island: Marina de Gosier, Marina de St-Francois, Marina de Riviere Sens a Gourbeyre and Malendure. The ship provided is often a “maxi catamaran”, with a capacity to hold a maximum of twenty people, though motor boats are also available if you so desire. Departure is early in the morning, around 8 a.m., and you will be back on the island before nightfall, at about 5/5.30 p.m. according to the season. The atmosphere on board depends mostly on the ship’s crew. Note that this type of boat trip does not need any previous navy experience, anybody can participate and the crossing is usually relatively calm. If winds are too high, you need not worry, as the excursion will simply be postponed. Count between 70 and 90 € for a boat trip to the Saints and Marie-Galante, for an all inclusive whole-day excursion, with reduced tariffs often available for children.
