Tourism Guide Gosier en Guadeloupe
Gosier is one of the most populated cities in Guadeloupe. Located in the south of Grande-Terre, the town was named after the pelican. Indeed, the animal has a large expandable pocket which it uses to catch fish, which gave it its nickname of "Grand Gosier." The animal became the emblem of the city and then gave it its name. Actual tourist heart of Guadeloupe, Le Gosier attracts with its warm, its casino and its long beach.
Located only 7km from Pointe-à-Pitre and 10 km from Sainte-Anne, the city of Gosier is ideally situated to offer its visitors many opportunities for activities and excursions.
History :
The history of Gosier began in the seventeenth century when the French decided to build a fort. The place, then called Morne-l'Union was a strategic military place but did not attract many people.
During the mid-eighteenth century, a second fort was built by the British, who had been occupying the island since 1756. In 1763 France took it over following the Treaty of Paris and restored the Fort l'Union. However, in 1794 the British seized the island again causing violent clashes between them and the black battalions of rebels led by Jean-Baptiste-Victor Hugues. On July 6, 1794, Fort Fleur d'Epee was stormed and the British had to leave the island.
In january 1810, the English are back in Le Gosier and Basse-Terre surrendered shortly afterwards. Guadeloupe became French again only in 1815.
In 1960, Fort Fleur d'Epee was restored when the town of Gosier began its tourism development. With its beautiful beach, Le Gosier quickly attracted the largest hoteliers who come to build hotel complexes.

Le Gosier Casino, which has nothing to envy the great American casinos, attracts players with its slot machines, its festive and holiday atmosphere and its restaurants and bars. It also has its own nice and cozy cinema room where a film is released weekly.
The Aquarium of Guadeloupe is a place not to be missed during a trip to the island. It is the largest in the Caribbean and has 35 pools with marine flora and fauna of the Caribbean. Coral reef, mangrove and sandy floor are presented each with a willingness to understand the delicate balance of these ecosystems. A huge shark pool impresses young and old. The aquarium offers more original activities such as an eco-tour, a walk underwater, ecological discovery courses, or to spend a night with sharks!
