The most well-known specialty of Marie Galante is the Belele, which is in fact a meal of tripes and bread balls. Even though it might sound and look quite appalling, do try it, as it is absolutely delicious.

Fish are fresh from the sea every day as the “saintoises” (multi-coloured boats) pull into the harbour. Don’t expect a precise time: fishing is over when the catch is reckoned good enough for the day.

Don’t miss out on local meat, which you will find fresh in any supermarket. The quality is exceptional.
