Cruises on Martinique: “Day Charters”
Day Charters are proposed by most maritime companies and include a full day at sea, set out to discover the Martiniquean coast or neighbouring islands, most particularly Saint Lucia. Departures are essentially from Pointe du Bout (Commune of Trois Ilets), Saint Lucia or the marina in Marin. “Caribbean Coast” (Cote Caraibe) day cruise programmeThe circuit is roughly the same for all cruises, with the exception of a few minor details. You will marvel at the lovely coves of the Caribbean coast, grab lunch someplace around Grande Anse, and return to your departure point at the end of the day. Boats leave around 9 a.m. and return around 5 p.m. Several stops are included in the voyage, such as a couple of hours’ swimming and snorkelling, and lunch on board or in a restaurant on the coast. Boats are often “maxi catamarans”, with the capacity of approximately twenty people, though some companies may offer monohull transport. Atmosphere on board mostly depends on the humour of the crew. Participating in a day charter does not necessitate any navigating skills, and is thus accessible to one and all, even the seasick types, as the sea here tends to be extremely calm. Tariffs vary around 70/80€ per day for adults (all inclusive), with reductions for children. Sailboat trips to Saint LuciaThese day trips take you across the sea to Saint Lucia, an English-speaking island situated in the south of the Antillean arc. Sailboats are high-speed maxi catamarans, and the crossing lasts about an hour and a half to two hours, depending on weather conditions. These excursions are a harmonious blend of relaxation, water sports activities and discovery. On arrival to Castries (the capital), French or English speaking guides are at your disposal to show you around the town and its colourful and picturesque market. You will then be driven from Castries to Marigot Bay in a minivan, with ample possibilities of taking pictures. Lunch will be served in a local restaurant, before embarking on the boat again for a further visit of Rodney Bay and Pigeon Island, where you will have all the afternoon off for swimming and snorkelling. Boats depart from the Marin at 7.30 a.m., and return at 6 p.m. Tariffs vary around 120€, all inclusive.
