Beaches of Saint BarthelemySand and coconut trees… Isn’t that more than enough to attract the beautiful people: businessmen, ministers and deputies, TV, rock or movie stars. 22 astonishing beaches are to be discovered around the island, such as Salines bay on the southern coast, or the windy creeks of the opposite side. You will need two or three days to make the complete tour in no hurry, taking the time to appreciate all the charms of this magnificent island.
SAINT-JEANA pretty beach is situated right next to the runway, in a pleasant bay, which makes a perfect first contact with the Caribbean on arrival.
LorientLorient’s beaches are a bit more on the wavy side, which is much appreciated by the younger generation, and of course, surfers.
East of LorientThe denticulate coast proposes a vast choice of spots, mostly located towards point Lorient and point Milou. The most beautiful beaches here are to the east: Grand Cul de Sac and Petit Cul de Sac. These two magnificent bays, protected by a coral reef from boats and other intruders, are a perfect place to plunge into the wonderfully soothing and refreshing waters, after a tiring day in the scorching sun. Surfers will also appreciate the scenery, and the possibility of mounting the waves without any danger. Southwards on, the coast bears a more savage aspect, with abrupt cliffs and coastline. This is by far the best spot for those interested in photography.
Grande SalineA splendid beach of white sand and turquoise sea, backed by a scenery of rolling green hills: so postcard-like it is almost unreal. If you are a fan of these incredibly cliché beaches, all you need to do is drive further up north to delight in at least a handful of them. Grande Saline is a quiet beach, accessible only on foot from the parking area. It hosts no coral reef, and can thus sometimes be windier than other areas, and swimming is difficult here, so be especially prudent. Its name originates from the salt marshes exploited here by Saint Bartheans. Note that nudism is allowed on this beach.
Anse du GouverneurDirectly opposite Lorient towards the south, this beach of coconut trees is a perfect place to shoot your own Blue Lagoon remake. Don’t miss taking a picture or two of your loved ones with the hills in the background and their feet in the water!
ColombierA protected beach, which is rather difficult to access, as you will need to climb a steep little walk of half an hour. Those who can afford it prefer to arrive by boat. A terrific little spot to idle around and work on your suntan, slightly more popular than in past days, though still in possession of all its charm.
Anse des CayesA wonderful location for surfers and fans of water sports, as well as divers. If you choose to stay on the surface, though, you still won’t be disappointed.
