Money
The currency in use is the same as on the mainland: the Euro, however, U.S. Dollars are accepted everywhere. Cheques from outside the island are often refused so be prepared to use your credit card (Visa, MasterCard) or cash.
Banks
Banks are open from Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to noon and 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., with a couple of agencies also open on Saturday mornings.
Post office and telecommunication
Post office
Letters or postcards must be stamped “Par avion”, and will take quite a long time to arrive. Postage dues are the same as on the mainland. There are three post offices on Saint Barth. The central post office of Gustavia is open from Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., and Wednesdays and Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. Two further offices are located in Mangliers (Saint Jean) and Lorient.
Telephone
The telephone code is the same as on Guadeloupe: Dial 05 90 for landlines and 06 90 for mobile phones, though note that fees do differ. Landline and mobile phone numbers are composed of 10 digits, similarly to the mainland, when calling from France or its overseas territories: All landlines begin by 05 90 (+ 6 digits of your correspondent). All mobile phone numbers begin by 06 90 (+ 6 digits of your correspondent). All international numbers must be preceded by 00. To reach Saint Barth from abroad you must dial the international prefix code (usually 00), followed by 590 (country code), plus the 9 digits of your correspondent (5 90 + 6 digits for landlines, or 6 90 + 6 digits for mobile phones).
