Currency

Saint Lucia uses the Eastern Caribbean Dollar or Caribbean Dollar. It is distinguished from the American currency by the code: « EC$ ». Allow 2.48 EC$ for 1 €. Hotels can also provide this information.

Most restaurants, hotels, boutiques and shopping centres accept the Euro, the US Dollar, the Canadian Dollar, Traveller’s Cheques, and most major credit cards.

Departure Tax

A departure tax that is to be paid at ports and airports applies to all visitors over the age of 12 years that are leaving Saint Lucia.

  • From the airport: 22 US$ or 54 EC$.
  • From the port: 12 US$ or 25 EC$.

Service Charges & Government Taxes: Hotel and restaurant bills are assessed an 8% government tax and 10% for service charges. Some establishments include these taxes directly in their billing. You can ask for an itemised bill! In general, the rates that are displayed are the rates you pay.

The authorised Duty-Free franchise on Saint Lucia is: 200 cigarettes or 250 grams of tobacco or 50 cigars; 1 litre of spirits or wine.
