Saint Martin’s temperature is regulated by trade winds, so a breeze can be felt at all times of the year, usually with an average of 12-14 knots. June and July are the windiest months of the year, when winds are regular and quite strong.
SpotsOrient Bay.Orient Bay beach is over 3 km long, and is one of the most polyvalent sites of the Caribbean, a paradise for free-riders. The lagoon of Papagayo is the best place for a fast ride with its turquoise waters and five to six meter-high waves. If you’re a beginner, it is better to stay closer to the coast, though. The bay is encircled by the islands of Caye Verte, Tintamarre and Pinel, three isles easily accessible by surf: by slalom when the tide is low, and free ride when winds are high. The Big Mamma wave, behind Caye Verte, is only advised for professional wave riders who know the site well, as corals are not too deep and the flow is rather brusque. Galion. The tiny bay of Galion is also a perfect place to surf or kitesurf, suitable even for beginners. The coral reef is rather high, so pay attention when leaving the water. An ideal place when the wind is south. Nettlé Bay.A long bay on the Caribbean coast, a good departure point to surf as far as the island of Anguilla.
